5 Days 4 Nights Samburu Sopa Lodge 2026 Safari Overview
This 5 Days 4 Nights Samburu Safari is designed for travelers seeking a more remote and distinctive Kenyan safari experience in 2026, away from the busier southern circuits. Samburu National Reserve offers dramatic semi-arid landscapes, rare northern wildlife species, and a strong sense of place shaped by the Samburu people and the life-giving Ewaso Nyiro River. Traveling by road in a private 4WD safari Jeep/Land cruiser, guests enjoy an unrushed journey north, with multiple game drives spread across four nights to allow deeper exploration of the reserve. Staying at Samburu Sopa Lodge, elevated on a hillside overlooking the reserve, the safari combines expansive views, comfortable accommodation, and excellent access to Samburu’s unique wildlife and riverine habitats.
Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve
The safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading north through central Kenya. The drive gradually transitions from fertile highlands to drier, more rugged terrain as you pass through Nanyuki and Isiolo, clearly marking your entry into Kenya’s northern frontier. Arrive at Samburu Sopa Lodge in time for check-in and lunch. The lodge’s elevated position offers wide views across the reserve and surrounding hills, providing an immediate sense of Samburu’s vastness. After lunch and a short rest, head out for your first afternoon game drive in Samburu National Reserve. Wildlife is often concentrated along the Ewaso Nyiro River, where you may encounter elephants, crocodiles, and an array of birdlife. This initial drive introduces you to the reserve’s striking scenery and wildlife patterns. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve
After an early breakfast, depart for a morning game drive, when temperatures are cooler and wildlife activity is high. Samburu is particularly known for its rare northern species, often referred to as the Samburu Special Five: Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, &Gerenuk.
These species are rarely seen elsewhere in Kenya, making Samburu especially rewarding for repeat safari travelers in 2026. Return to the lodge for lunch and leisure time. You may relax on your veranda, enjoy the lodge grounds, or take a swim while overlooking the reserve below. In the late afternoon, enjoy a second game drive, focusing on different sections of the park and river crossings where predators such as lions and leopards are often spotted. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve
This day allows for a deeper exploration of Samburu’s ecosystem. After breakfast, head out for a morning game drive, tracking wildlife movements along the riverbanks and open plains. Samburu’s leopard sightings are among the best in Kenya due to the rocky outcrops and riverine forest cover. Your guide will focus on these areas while also watching for cheetahs and large elephant herds. Return to the lodge for lunch, followed by a relaxed afternoon. The slower pace of this safari day is intentional, allowing guests to absorb the atmosphere and scenery rather than rush between activities. Later in the afternoon, enjoy another game drive, taking advantage of the softer light as animals become active again. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, depart for a morning game drive, covering areas not yet explored. With multiple days in the reserve, sightings often improve as guides build on previous observations and animal movements. Return to the lodge for lunch and rest, followed by your final afternoon game drive. This drive offers a last opportunity to revisit favorite sightings or search for species still on your wish list. The evening is spent at leisure, followed by dinner and overnight, marking your final night in Samburu.
